Welcome to Reality Check!
On your mark; get set; go! Pace yourself, lengthen your stride, relax you’re uptight; keep pacing yourself; look straight ahead; keep your focus, last turn give it all you’ve got go for it. Runners need this kind of coaching; especially if they plan on winning.
Christians need this kind of coaching too. Why? Because living for God is a lot like a long distance race. We start at salvation but we don’t finish until we reach heaven’s shores. In the meantime the Holy Spirit, our heavenly coach, gives us encouragement to:
- Pace ourselves the tortoise still beats the hare
- Lengthen your stride-maximize each day
- Relax cast your cares on Jesus
- Look straight ahead fix your eyes on Jesus the Author and Finisher of your faith
- Keep your focus don’t let the other runners throw you off course
- Give it all you’ve got press toward the mark there is a prize
- Go for it we run for a crown that will not tarnish
Running the race, finishing the race, and receiving the prize are great goals to shoot for but what if I missed practice. I mean if having my devotions every day is what it takes to win consistently, what if I missed practice 1, 2, 3, or even 5 days this week? What should I do?
God has the answer - Proverbs 11:5
"A just man falls seven times and rises up again, but the wicked fall into mischief."
Forget the past, set a new pace, look straight ahead and give it all you’ve got. Ask your trainer (Holy Spirit) to keep you on track. Here is a great example to follow Christ Himself.
Hebrews 12:2
"Who for the joy that was set before him endured."
This is one race worth running. A race that gives you love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, meekness, self-control, and even peace of mind in the toughest situations in life.
On your mark; get set let’s go!
